Ideas for App Inventor 2 Anti-Awards

The Just One More Anti-Award

For the person who overstuffed his app, one item at a time, until AI2 could not handle more.

Really funny! Reminds me of a person in local politics here (the fat guy).

The Splat! Award

For the developer that just keeps throwing "found or made up" blocks and code at their project in the hope that one of them will stick - and possibly work.

(Note; asking for help after each additional iteration, after compounding their initial error)

The Everything, Everywhere, All At Once Award

This might be a good award for some one who does not account for the need to allow long running operations to complete before trying to build on their results, like adding rows to a new spreadsheet before the sheet has finished being created.

The Misinformer

The person (or bot) who always necro-posts or posts in any topic an answer which is generated by ChatGPT or any other AI bot, which is completely irrelevant to the topic or question being posted by the OP. Therefore providing misinformation to the community.

The Goalposts Award

image

Awarded to the developer who does a good job of asking for help, provides screenshots of blocks and data, but then complains the proposed solution does not work, after they (the developer) changed something in their structure or data.

The Harbinger of Despair

This is a composite of other Anti Awards, for the post that you are tempted to help, but will result in utter despair.

Example: Anything requiring the Rosetta Stone to understand the code.

I feel like all these awards are meant for me!

This award goes to the user who is given the answer to their question, again and again and again, but on each occasion fails to get the message...

The “One Screen Fits All” Award

For builders who…

the entire app is done in Screen1, thousands of blocks, and no error handling, then wonders why performance is laggy and maintenance is nearly impossible.

How To Get This Award

Put everything in screen 1 by using Horizontal and Vertical layout (or Absolute Layout)

In contrast to "One Screen Fits All," there's a special award for users who contact me because their project won't load. They turn out to have 50 screens, and they blew through the popup warning when you try to exceed 10 screens and can't figure out why that would be a problem.

I have no name for this, so have at it

1. :trophy: The “I-Love-Asking-Random Stuff” Award :trophy:

For that special someone who strolls into our community, sees our shiny new extensions, and asks,

“Why don’t my blocks work?”

Reality check: they’re actually using a different platform, like Kodular, and the extension only works on MIT App Inventor. The developer already clearly stated this—but hey, sometimes reading is hard! :stuck_out_tongue:🫨

2. Lok6 Gun1 Aa3 Suk1 – The “Positive Uncle” Award (Hide The Pain Harold)

Lok6 Gun1 Aa3 Suk1 is a recent meme from Hong Kong that translates to “Positive Uncle.”

Here’s the video of the meme:

Translation:

Speaker Original (Cantonese) Literal Translation
樂觀阿叔 我都唔知個天文台點搞㗎,我出咗嚟嗰陣時紅雨,突然間變黑雨都要㗎啦冇辦法啦 I really don’t know how the observatory handles things. When I came out, it was red rain, then suddenly it turned black rain. Nothing you can do.
新聞記者 係咪覺得太遲通知啊? Do you feel it was too late to notify?
樂觀阿叔 唔係呀,我唔識講啊,因為我唔能夠亂講嘢㗎嘛,多謝個天文台帶俾我一日愉快的一天 No, it’s not that. I don’t know how to speak, because I can’t just say random things. Thank the observatory for giving me a happy day.

This award goes to the person who asks a question, someone tries to explain, and they still don’t get it—but instead of arguing or asking again, they simply reply:

“I understand. Thank you.”

They do this to save face and maintain that polite, positive energy. (Basically Hide the Pain Harold :sob:)

Gotta say, I've done this in the past. It's easier than saying, "I can tell that no amount of talking to you is going to make this any clearer, but you should feel good for trying."
