Welcome Phillip
School IT departments have a difficult job protecting a class' Web safety. Sometimes they block critical things. Sharing this School IT/Network Admins: Information specific to school networks with them might help.
See these links regarding other classes that had and solved emulator issues similar to what you describe by unblocking ports and whitelisting certain url's.
Kindle Fire 8 not connecting to computer - #23 by Mitchell_Calvin
I hope someone has an answer for this.
I got the mit app inventor app installed on district chromebooks, but now when my students try to run their apps, it just hangs on "Running using the emulator or USB, waiting to get blocks..."
These are district chromebooks. Is there something I can do to get around this?

Hi!
I am starting a course, very basic, for use of APP INVENTOR in a medium school. Because in our school we can't use the smartphone, I would use the emulator for testing the applications. In my tests, however, the emulator never works. It ends with a javalang runtime error.
Please how do I could fix this issue?
My OS is Win10 Home build SO 18363.1016
I work in Technology for a Middle School and since start of school our Computer Application teacher has been using the MIT Appinventor without any issues with his students. Just this past week when students try logging in, after logon our firewall is blocking further access.
I've worked with our network admin and he suspects that MIT is using a YouTube integration for login using Google, and since we have YouTube blocked for students this is what's preventing students from proceeding.

Perhaps one of other's classroom issues is discussed and solved in the above discussions. Is anything there familiar?
