Here is all I know about the Companion and Emulator:
Personally, I avoid the MIT emulator because it is tricky and underpowered, instead I use a Companion app on my phone with the QR code connection, or a Companion connection on the ad-supported MemuPlay emulator when I want to do combined screen shots.
