I used to play around in ai2 sources and found the source app companion. I loaded a project into ai2 and there is a "PhoneStatus" component there, it is not an extension as it is not found in extensions. Maybe MIT could release this as an extension, if that's what you're asking.
However, I think that it is geared towards companion support and it would be necessary to make corrections to allow universal use.
