Me ocurría el mismo texto de ERROR. En mi caso el problema no se debe a mi inventor APP.
El origen del ERROR debe a la UBICACION de la FireBase Realtime DataBase.
Al inicio cuando creas el proyecto en FireBase, TIENES que elegir UBICACION de tu almacenamiento en USA,
pues en Europa no funciona y devuelve el ERROR: "for a custom firebase host you must first set your authentication server before using authentication features"

Pienso que quizás se debe a nuevas normas de privacidad y protección de datos que existen en la Unión Europea.
Espero que os sea útil y se RESUELVA este ERROR que circula por la red.
NOTA: Soy nuevo. Al ver que no se encontraba la solución en la WEB me he dado de alta en este CHAT.

Create a new project with the US server and not the EU server. Also, go to the Authentication tab and select an authentication method. This will then show the API key in your project settings. The firebase url will be above your data when viewing realtime database in the console.

API Key (in Firebase) = Firebase Token (in App Inventor Firebase component)
