When I enter my emulator, it comes up with this and I don't know why. I have several vertical arrangements and lots of coding that I've looked over but I still don't know what the problem is. Can someone help?
The emulator takes some time to load everything. That's why you see the empty "rectangles".
The loading time depends on how much coding you have done.

50% right. The emulator does sometimes take time to load, but a lot of times, since it is an older version, it simply "wouldn't load". One of my projects with 20 buttons, 50 labels and 10 layouts simply "wouldn't load" after I have waited for half an hour.
Do note that the emulator is Android 2.2. If you have a real device, try with that.
