I would like to know how to get the package name back to the original name so the compiled version will update the original app

Did you delete / change the keystore? If so, you need the original keystore to update your app.

In order to be able to release an app / update in the Play Store, at least the following requirements must be met: The version code is higher than the current version. The packageName is the same (as the previous / original one). The keystore is identical (with the previous / initial version).
