What are the reasons a private App Inventor server may be needed?
The only reason that I can think of is having a server that I can control its changes and upgrades. Is there another reason?

For people looking to submit changes to App Inventor is also useful to run a server to demonstrate the changes in question, along with providing a companion if there are component changes. However, the typical use case does not require anyone to run their own instance and we state that up front in the README file on GitHub.
