When sprite hits edge, start timer

I want to make it so when my sprite hits the edge, a timer will begin(10 seconds). I've created a global variable so there is a timer that is 10 seconds long, and when it starts it'll go down by 1 second, but I want to make it so the timer will only start once the image sprite hits edge of canvas. I'm a newbie and need guidance ASAP
