We started this new category specifically for educators who teach App Inventor. We’d love to hear what you are doing in your classroom or what you hope to do.
We also welcome all educators, if you haven’t already, to join our Education Collaborative. That way you’ll receive our newsletters to learn about upcoming events, PD, and the latest new features for App Inventor.
Hi Rashmi, welcome to the Educators community for App Inventor! If you are considering teaching Computer Science, you can start by looking for and joining your local CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association) chapter - https://csteachers.org/.
I am assuming you are in the US, but I that might be a wrong assumption. Apologies if you reside elsewhere.
If you are in the US, check your state’s requirements to become a certified teacher. Check your state’s Department of Education website for information. If you live in another country, check what the requirements are with your Ministry of Education.
It also might be worth looking into Masters programs specifically for Computer Science education online. Having a Masters degree in education usually helps with state/country requirements for certification, and it also provides you skills in pedagogy. Despite the common myth that “anyone can teach”, it does require specialized skills.
Hi Rashmi_A, always happy to hear that more people are thinking about teaching!
There will be different requirements for different countries, but most require countries require a college degree program (though some have alternative pathways like internships or short courses you can add onto another degree). You might also want to think about trying out being a teaching assistant for a while to see if you really like it.
