The website is functional, but lack modern UI/UX and that appeal to it. Maybe we can work together on the thing

Agreed. It's a shame that the phone screen on the designer screen looks old, and doesn't reflect the latest smartphone size. It's hard to think that it's a tool to create the latest smartphone apps. It's a pity that it doesn't look appealing to new entrants. So does the faded green colors.
App Inventor deserves even more love.

I believe the OP was referring to the AppInventor website ?
You might want to look at the ai2-test server and the upcoming latest release which will contain the new UI for AppInventor.

The initials should always be good. The website since open source have to a lot of potential to be very very stunning. And if there is potential then why not to invest in that.
There is already a new UI/UX in the planning, you can search the community for more info.
Also, I believe functionality matters more than looks.
I 100% agree with you regarding the functionality.. I am just saying lets get both while we can. Why to settle for low..
