I have setup the MIT App Inventor on my own Windows Server and it can be assessed using http. It is highly appreciated if anyone can give hints on setting up https connection. Thank you very much.
How exactly are you hosting it? If you're just running the dev server, you'll probably need to put something in front of it to terminate the SSL connection, such as nginx, apache, or IIS. The Google App Engine dev server does not support SSL.
