Scan QR code blows up App Inventor on iPad

When I try to scan the QR code on my iPadPro App Inventor quits. The code is on a MacBook Air. The Air is running Sonoma 14.2.1. The iPadPro is running iOS 18.1. The version of MIT App Inventor is 2.64.5 (build 1). Both machines are within 8' of the gateway and have very strong connections.
When I click "scan QR code" on the iPad, the camera activates and when I aim it toward the QR code on the Air, as soon as the iPad sees any of the QR code App Inventor crashes.
What's wrong??????

uncheck Use External Scanner ?

Where is that option? I don't see it on the iPad screen.
