I’ve created an extension called RemoveBackground. It does exactly what its name suggests: it removes the background from any image captured with the camera using Remove.bg.
It returns the URI of the image stored on the device, the public URL, and the Base64 data.

Whose API does it use ?
You are aware this moves to Canva and becomes a paid service, with a different API (Leonardo) in December 2026 ?
I didn’t know that, but it’s easy to scale the extension when that happens. I have a VPS, so I would just need to install rembg using isnet-general-use or birefnet-general, and I’d get exactly the same results, for free, with no subscriptions or limits.
