The problem may be that your laptop is not connected to the Internet using a router or you may not have installed Companion to your cellphone or the laptop and cell are not using the same ip address. We don’t know without more information about how you are trying to connect.
Have you read and followed the advice here> Setup computer and phone/tablet or emulator for live testing as you build ?

Steve
My laptop & phone both are coonected to the same wifi & I am following the same steps mentioned in the setup but still it’s not working.
even i am facing the same problem . can anyone suggest some solution for it
When you open up the companion app what ip address is shown? Does this match the network your computer is on?
In MIT app inventor it is showing some private ip address which is not same to the public ip address by which my computer is connected . So what i have to do for that
You computer should also have a local IP address…
yes both my computer and mobile have different private ip addressed but those are connect to same public ip address .
The phone and the laptop will connect over the local network when using the companion. The companion will show you its local IP where you enter the code. For this to work, for example:
phone local IP: 192.168.0.23 << this shown on companion app screen, on start up
laptop local IP: 192.168.0.15
(The last two / three digits can be between 1 and 254)
yes these are connected in the same way .
What error do you see when you try to connect ?
