MIT App Inventor version nb192

Hello everyone,

We have released MIT App Inventor version nb192 on ai2.appinventor.mit.edu. This is mainly a bugfix release with the following changes:

  • Relax maxSDK constraint for Bluetooth on Android 12+, fixing permissions issues on certain devices.
  • Make the 6 character code copyable with platform standard keyboard shortcuts
  • Update some translations
  • Fix an issue that prevented large apps from loading on iOS with WebRTC
  • Fix an issue where App Inventor would continue to check for build progress after a build failure

Note that while we changed the permissions for Bluetooth, we opted against pushing a new version out to the store. If you are on a device affected by the Bluetooth permission issue, you can side-load the version from the website, which has the relaxed constraints.

Regards,
Evan W. Patton, Ph.D.

So no Companion update is needed?
(Never mind, I read the release notes.)

However, if you download the companion from the server itself (aka side load), it is version 2.66au, which contains the Bluetooth permission change.

We did not publish a new companion via the store, no. However, if folks are on Android 12 or later devices (like Xiaomi) affected by the classic Bluetooth permission issue, they can sideload the companion from ai2.appinventor.mit.edu, which does have Google-recommended the restrictions removed. For platforms following the Google spec, no action is needed and the version from the store will suffice.
