Hi are the values given by the MagneticChanged event shown in microTeslas, I couldn't find any information http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu/reference/components/sensors.html#MagneticFieldSensor
I didn't test this. I just saw that taifuns extension report in microtesla. Maybe you can check if it gives the same values.

thank you Peter, I made a comparison test between the built in ai2 sensor and Taifun's and the absolute strength reading was the same so I think they must be both showing microTeslas
