basically yesterday, which was August 24th, some labels were no longer supposed to be displayed...all good. But now that it's August 25th, they've magically reappeared. How can I set them to always remain invisible after August 24th?

invert your “pattern”, use “yyyy.MM.dd” and as compare date use “2026.08.24”
And what's the difference?
using yyyy.MM.dd you can easily compare the strings:
2026.08.24 < 2026.08.25 < 2026.09.01 and so on
but using dd.MM.yyyy you will have:
24.08.2026 < 25.08.2026 > 01.09.2026

for comparing dates also timestamps are super easy to use…
