The problem might be Join; however the issue is probably something else so please post an image of your Blocks so someone can provide specific advice.

Pat, have you tested your aia on the emulator or an Android device? Does it work?

The join with separator block is implemented in the beta version 2.60.1. It was added to App Inventor after we got the 2.60 companion approved for the App Store.
