It is possible with App Inventor to use the front camera to scan a QR code.

I believe you can do it with the Scanview extension

Scanview extension does not work with APP Inventor

I have searched for extensions, but I cannot find any.

I just tried in the companion and it worked for me.

I noticed it takes a lot of trial and error to get a scan. The back camera is no problem, but it takes a lot of fiddling with the phone to get a result with the front camera.
