It may be due to slow Internet speed.
But the fact is :- My Internet speed is lower than 1MB/s but the images upload finely and properly and fast.
Maybe you image is of a high file size.
Try compressing your image before uploading it.
I have wi-fi and its speed is 10mbs

Please tell the file size.
Note that the maximum size of a file that can be uploaded to assets (→ Media ) in the designer is 5 MB

All of your images should be pre-optimised for Android and App Inventor.
