Blocks are just easy workable representation of codes, when you work with them, you understand how the flow works. You apply the same concept while programming.
Starting with blocks is a great way to learn programming, I'm telling you from my personal experience.
Sometimes when you immediately start with languages like Java or Python, you may feel lost, or not sure what to do, because you initially may not find the purpose or joy. With blocks, you have more freedom of easy movement to exercise your ideas and be creative.
