How do I scan a photo and retrieve the text in it?

Hi,
For a college project i need to build an App that recognises Text in a Photo an reads this text out loud. Can anybody tell me how to do it?

You need to OCR your photo. This can be done with extensions, or by using a base64 encoding extension and google docs.

Did you search for OCR extensions on the link, and follow those links?

I have lost my howto for the google docs solution, following a web reshuffle. I have all the pieces, but will have to find some time to put them all back together
