While we work to root-cause the issue, you should be able to make use of ai2.appinventor.mit.edu.
It should be back now.

sorry for my late answer but it was nighttime when I found the problem, so I preferrred to sleep on it 
Definitely thanks a lot for your help, it works again now also from Italy.
(Yes, in the meanwhile I've used ai2appinventor.mit.edu but I was just wondering whether it was my issue or elsewhere)

It had to be elsewhere, at the networking level at MIT.
There's no way you could have caused that.
