Hi there! First time user of the forum. I have been working on a project for a few weeks ( most of the time spent watching coding bus, searching google and the forums ) and I am stuck staring at the options - I know exactly what I want to do, just not finding the ways on here. I have a successful working copy on excel I did, now I want to make it more portable in app form.
Basically, a (not so) simple calculator where you enter the weight in Kg, select dog/cat.
Each species has an initial calculation to show the RER. This is supposed to show in the RER_answer, I get an error on the emulator
When dog or cat is selected, it opens the selected factors in Listview. (I was excited when this worked out, and with the active button highlights!! I may add a reset to clear back to default later on)
You select the factor option, it is then supposed to calculate the RER answer by the selected factor (RER_answer * 1.8)=DER
The DER-answer will either be a range due to the factor range, or a single number ( in which will populate both ranges with the same number )
In my project, I was starting with baby steps just seeing if the RER showed.. nope. 3 hours later of searching, Im stuck. I have not even explored how to do my factors in the Listview... probably if/then blocks.
I did disable the cat calculation block, I was not sure if it was conflicting with the same answer spot. At least until I get this figured out
Looking for some hints to help me along the way. Thank you in advance!
In the global initialization change the input numbers only to inputKG to text
You need to do calculation with numbers but you are trying to do maths with a condition. Numbers only mean this inbox will accept only numbers. Set this condition from input_KG type to numner only (but you did it already)
Morever in the initialization do not initialize this variable with input_KG because whereever you call this global variable it will show initialized value only and not entered value Instead replace it with just input_KG text block. It wont throw error
I don't see you trying to use the cat/dog factors, unless you just didn't integrate it yet,
but i am working on a solution, i am trying a code that doesn't use the exponent block but rather processes it through different blocks, these are the changes i've made:
however, it is not working well with the cubing (exponent of 3), it just gave 25, when it's supposed to be 125. though, come to think of it that was the correct answer with 5 squared (exponent of 2), so it might just be that something's interfering with the
set SingleDER.Text to DogOutput/CatOutput.still working, but can someone tell me how to legally do this?
I don't have a chance today to work on it, but I'm going to pick back up tomorrow. I did not incorporate it yet, I was building it in small portions, to make sure my proof of concept was working. Did not want Make it look too complicated yet
In case you're wondering what the raw formula is....
Kg^0.75 * 70=RER
RER*1.6 = DER
So if the weight is 10 kg, The RER should be 394
And with a factor of 1.6, the DER should be 630.
yeah, i had to look that one up, but DER is short for Daily Energy Requirement, and RER is short for Respiratory Exchange Ratio. Apparently RER has a wide list of meanings, as the internet also said it could be Paris's Réseau Express Régional, a train, Real Estate Roundtable, or Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum which i have no clue as to what that means.
Resting energy requirement.. lol. Close. I do appreciate the help. But I want to make sure that I'm not asking you to do my project for me, just kind of help me get started so I can keep rolling to the next bump in the road.
I seriously appreciate all the help. But I really want to make a very good effort at me trying at this. My goal is to eventually get real good. But l realize that I'll be reaching out often so I don't grow any more gray hairs.
When I watch the tutorials on how to do things, my analytical brain is like heck yeah I got this. Then when I do it, whole other story lol
I I imagine goldfish may have some sort of formula. Not sure how you get the weigh them. Imagine all animals could have them, they that way they get the proper calorie content based on their activity etc. Does make one think more deeply..
I apologize for the white text in the comment bubble from my Do It debugging of the function call of RER for a 10 kg dog. I am testing on an AI2 test server, which is not yet ready for production.
These blocks should be draggable into your Blocks Workspace, regardless of version. animal_respiration.aia (2.3 KB)
