How to add border to textbox in the App Inventor? Without the border, user can't tell where the text box is.

That's right.And because my background is white color and when my text box is white color it can't be understood.

Alternatively, why not make the Screen background or the Textbox background a light pastel colour?

Try to read and understand the docs and understand try to change the accent color or back ground color or text color.. It might help
