We are working on a project that uses an older version of mit app inventor, and we wanted to know what are the definition block equivalents in mit appinventor2. (For those who are interested, we are building a GPS app.) we’d like to know as soon as possible! Thanks in advance!
are you saying, you are using a tutorial, which is based on App Inventor Classic?
what about using the App Inventor 2 tutorials instead?

There is a free programming course here http://www.appinventor.org/content/CourseInABox/Intro and the aia files for the projects in the book are here: http://www.appinventor.org/bookFiles
How to do a lot of basic things with App Inventor are described here: http://www.appinventor.org/content/howDoYou/eventHandling .
Also do the tutorials Our Tutorials! to learn the basics of App Inventor, then try something and follow the Top 5 Tips: How to learn App Inventor
you can find the intialize global and local blocks in the Variable drawer
