As AI becomes increasingly accepted by humanity, I too have concerns about the future of App Inventor...
I wonder if in the future there will be an App Inventor.AI, or even a Chatbot writing the code for you!
Imagine kids just mindlessly using AI to write Kotlin (...PlainKotlin?) for them!
I'm also concerned about App Inventor's free system.
Will it turn into Fremium, where users may have to pay $10.99 just to use TinyDB?

PS about the topic: as an old embedded software engineer (for planes, satellites, missiles, etc), I really disagree with the use of AI to "make code". It is since the early '80ies that some CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tools were studied, but the biggest problem was (and still remains IMHO) the precision of the specification, that shall detail the requirements uniquely and precisely. And the second big problem is: how to validate a piece of code vithout being capable of verifying it in advance ? (Verification and Validation aren't the same). The forum is full of help requests on how to find a bug in a code that the "author" is not aware of (because the "real author" is a machine). In a nutshell: I would never want to fly on a plane whose software was written by AI (not validated).
As a "simply technical" power user I'm not in a position to know the future of AI2. For the time being I believe that who uses AI2 for personal purposes and for teaching kids how to approach the world of app's (and also for this reason I suggest not to use AI for creating app's) is far more than enough. So let me wish: "Long life to MIT AI2"
App Inventor offers too much for free to its users, yet MIT has to foot the bill. If a donation button were introduced, I think the vast number of users could generate significant revenue through ads. These ads wouldn't have to be overly intrusive, and we’re already accustomed to ads being everywhere anyway.
In any case, I think that with the advent of AI, giant strides have been made on the one hand; yet on the other, there is a risk that most people will stop using their brains—after all, the assignment is already done for them, so why bother putting in the effort to think?
Thanks for the question as it is one that comes up every few years. App Inventor is a research project at MIT, which means we are supported by external grant funding, which we have been doing successfully for the last 15 years since App Inventor "graduated" from Google Labs to MIT. A few years ago, we also started the App Inventor Foundation (now appinventor.org) to provide additional fundraising and technical support capacity. We have also been receiving credits from Amazon Web Services to support offering the App Inventor service to the world through their Education Equity Initiative. Those grants have supported the technical infrastructure of the new ai2a and code2 servers that all App Inventor users are currently interacting within on a day-to-day basis. We have no intention currently of making people pay for the core service and will continue to fundraise to support free and open development on the App Inventor platform. We also offer App Inventor as open source so that anyone can run their own copy of the service. We have been exploring value-add features, such as a classroom portal to support educational use cases, that may be a paid service in the future for those who opt to use those services. However, they are not on the critical path for users who choose not to opt into them. The current financial support for research projects like App Inventor has fallen off in recent years for a number of reasons, but we are confident in our ability to continue to offer App Inventor for free to all for the foreseeable future.
