I’ve been using the Hotspot extension from Taifun very successfully by allowing the tablet to Modify system settings under App Permissions.
But since the latest update of App Inventor 2 last week, the Hotspot created has no security password.
Is there anything I can change to overcome this?
which Android version are you using for your test?
did you read the documentation?
The extension works only for devices using Android version 7 or below. Starting from Android 8 only apps, which are defined as system apps are able to create a hotspot.

My device runs Android 7. It worked until the recent update on App Inventor. When I compile now it creates the hotspot without any security password.
I did not find a solution for this. As it does not work anymore starting from Android 8 it is not worth spending time trying to fix this. I added a note on my webpage https://puravidaapps.com/hotspot.php. Thank you.
