This has been asked several times so it is always good to search before asking any question.

Problem Details

App must target Android 15 (API level 35) or higher

situation

  • We will not be able to release app updates (56 days left).

Date shipped

July 2, 2025

Deadline

August 31, 2025

To provide a safe environment for users, all apps on Google Play must meet target API level requirements.

Starting August 31, 2025, you will not be able to update your app unless it targets an API level within one year of the latest Android release.

How to solve

The highest target API level that is not compliant is Android 14 (API level 34).

To keep your app updated, you need to do the following:

  1. Update your app to target Android 15 (API level 35) or higher.
  2. Publish a new version of your app to production. Before that, you can test your app using internal, private, or public tests.

Every year the same unnecessary panic: :woman_shrugging:

Thanks for the heads-up! MIT App Inventor currently targets a lower API level, but the team is aware of Google's August 31, 2025 deadline for Android 15 (API 35). Hopefully, an update will be released before then. For now, just keep an eye on official announcements from MIT App Inventor.

I have created using app inventor an app, it works well, I send to google play byt....
Google Play is asking for the following: "The app must target Android 15 (API level 35) or newer."
Can anyone help me? Send me a quote. This app is to raise money to finish 2 others, and then I'll need the same service.

MIT is working on this issue.

ai2-test has been updated with a subset of proposed changes for our next release: nb202.

This update includes the SDK 35 version bump for those looking to test their apps prior to the Google deadline on Aug 31.

You can build your app on the test server and the app should upgrade properly. MIT plans to have the main server automatically upgrade apps to API level35.

However this feature will NOT be available on the main server yet. You should build your app on the main server when MIT tells us we can target API 35. This hopefully will happen by by Aug 31. Only then should you submit the app to google for final review.

. Do not use the app you build on the test server to submit to google play; only use the build you make on the test server to help test that the code is working.

If you use the build that you tested for your FINAL submittal you will have problems later updating that version. Please wait until target 35 is available on the main server.

It appears my extension request was denied. I have till end of August. However I will not be in the country or near my computer in the last two weeks of August. Does anyone know what is the target week for the level 35 api support build? I will need to push a build update immediately after before my trip and then do the Google Play Store process again with the beta list for the new version. Should we just assume the update is coming August 31st? The "no need to panic" sentiment doesnt make sense if the update is scheduled to happen that close to the actual Google Play Console deadline. Some of us wont be able to make it in time. I'm also curious how we will be notified?

Can you show us a screenshot of that?

Are we talking about 1) a new app or 2) an update of an existing app?

For 1) what about uploading the app now using target sdk 34?

For 2) what about updatibg the app now using taeget sdk 34?

See again

As mentioned previously its a new app in testing. Its updating an existing testers app. I feel I'm running a bit in circles with explaining on this forum. It would be nice to know exactly what week the developers intend to update to SDK 35 target.

Uploading SDK 34 is denied by Google Play Console as I explained in a post that seems to have been also removed by mods or admin? The error states Level 34 is not supported anymore.

All my testers on Google Play Console are saying they are getting an error page with what was upload just before this change over. I was in review to get my app approved after 14 testers but then Google Play console changed their policy to level 35 target, despite allowing me to originally upload a level 34 target and the tests were working at that time a month ago.

All we can do is wait but i have to consistently check where ever the devs decide to post a notification of the update to let us know when it rebuild out APKs and AABs for Google.

Saying "every year the same panic" doesn't solve the issue of not knowing when the actual update is going to be made when the deadline aligns with when this update is intended to come from MIT Inventory App. I have no better way to explain why this is problematic. I wont even be in the country in the last two weeks of August. I'll need a notification of some kind. Where is that going to be made? On these forums?
