From APK to AAB

I have an app that I uploaded as an *.apk forever and a day ago. I'd like to upload a new app and in order to do that, it has to be an *.aab. But when I tried to do that, I got this error message:

You uploaded an APK or Android App Bundle that is signed with a key that is also used to sign APKs that are delivered to users. Because you are enrolled in Play App Signing, you should sign your APK or Android App Bundle with a new key before you upload it.

So, I went back to my original app and tried to upload a new *.aab version and got this error message:

To upload an Android App Bundle you must be enrolled in Play App Signing.

At which point, I'm flailing. I can't find instructions that makes sense. I am lost.

I would like to keep updating my original app for my users.

No.

Great!

What do I do about his error message:

You uploaded an APK or Android App Bundle that is signed with a key that is also used to sign APKs that are delivered to users. Because you are enrolled in Play App Signing, you should sign your APK or Android App Bundle with a new key before you upload it.

???

Thank you.

Before I give this a try, I just want to make sure I understand the consequences.

When it comes time to update this app, will I have I problem doing so?

Hi,

I was feelign well for a while, so it took me a while to attempt this. I hve a question about step 7:

Step 7: In the third step, click Upload generated ZIP. Select the file to upload.

What generated ZIP? Where would I do that?

Was not feeling well, sorry.

So, what's this about a zip file I'm supposed to have?

Am I supposed to run pepk? Because if I am, I can't figure out how. What should I be doing? It's what I was talking when I said I can't find instructions that make sense.

Hi,

A while ago I posted this problem:

I would like to keep updating my original app for my users.

I got a very helpful reply that asked me to follow the instructions here:

The issue is that step 7 asks me to:

In the third step, click Upload generated ZIP. Select the file to upload.

There is no ZIP. I can download a PEPK tool, which I suppose might create the ZIP I'm supposed to upload, but I can't figure out how to run the PEPK tool. I've tried replying to the very nice person who sent me to that page, but I still have no idea what I'm supposed to actually do.

Can someone help me?

In Step 6 it shows you the command you have to run (on the command line in a command prompt) to generate the ZIP file you need to upload.

If you are following the guide you can copy this command by clicking on the icon on the right.

Thank you. I appreciate that.

I'm going to give it a try on Friday because that's when I have time to fiddle with this thing.

Wait a minute, what arguments am I supposed to replace? With what information?

Hi,

This is what happened when I tried that:
